Brooklyn Nets hoping to land Joe Johnson from Atlanta Hawks – NBA Update
The newly found Brooklyn Nets are trying to pull out all the stops and according to recent reports, they are trying to lure in Joe Johnson from Atlanta Hawks in exchange for several of their players with expiring
contracts - Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams.
Amidst the Deron Williams trade saga, the Nets have been linked with possible move for Dwight Howard from Orlando Magic. The All Star centre has reportedly asked his Magic management to the Nets. In addition
to that the franchise has also signed a 4 year – S 40 million contract with Gerald Wallace.
With the probable signing of six times All Star Johnson to play alongside Williams, Gerald and Howard; the Nets are hopeful to take a significant leap toward being genuine title contenders. However for that to
happen, there are a few speed bumps they would have to overcome first.
The first matter they would have to deal with is the confirmation of re-signing Williams who is set to meet Nets representatives on Monday. Another matter they would have to deal with is the Hawks demand for
the Nets to include guard MarShon Brooks in the trade. Brooks was a revelation in his rookie year last and with him being a bright future prospect; the Nets will be hesitant in letting him go.
One thing they don’t have to worry about at the moment is how to cope up with the $90 million which are still owed to Johnson, who still has four years left on his contract. The deep pocketed owner Russian billionaire
Mikhail Prokhorov is all set to take on the price tag if it insures the stay of stars like Williams.
According to sources close to the matter, the Hawks are also hoping to include the option of sign and trade for Kris Humphries and Gerald Green.
This sign and trade option would provide the Nets with much needed cap space and retain their mid level exception, an option which they are most likely to exercise on bringing in Mirza Teletovic, the Bosnian
free agent who is rated quite highly.
