Brooklyn Nets mark arrival on the NBA stage with a bang; Future still unclear for the highly paid roster – NBA Feature Part 4
Next season, the Brooklyn Nets will have to compete against the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference. They are the two best teams for next season after the Bulls counted themselves out of the equation due
to a poor offseason following an injury to star point guard Derrick Rose. The Indiana Pacers will also be a tough team to beat and the Philadelphia 76ers will take the floor as an improved unit after the addition of All Star centre Andrew Bynum.
The Nets roster is not good enough to take on the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics, but will be able to make a playoff spot and depending on their position at the end of the season, might even make it to the 2nd round.
For a team that was out of playoff conversation for the past few seasons, and for a team shifting to a new home fighting for fan support, that is not a bad deal. But considering the amount of money the Nets have spent in the offseason, one wonders if the assembled
line-up was worth all that was spent.
Next season is going to be a big challenge for the Nets. Months of marketing campaigns and talk will come to an end when the team takes the court for the first time. From there on, it will be their performance that will do the
talking. And the only performance that matters is one that finishes with a victory.
The Nets will be under tremendous pressure to live up to the hype that has been created by the front office, and to justify the huge salary contracts that the players just signed. They needed to do all that they did until now in
order to become relevant in the NBA rather than waiting for years before anyone took them seriously.
But now, they will face the uphill task of living up to the expectations that come with assembling a star studded roster and spending big money on players. The Miami Heat faced it in 2010, and the Nets will be facing it all through
the 2012-2013 season. If they want to become one of the biggest clubs in the NBA, they need to handle the pressure and deliver, marking their place in the league for years to come.
