Brooklyn Nets re-sign Kris Humphries to a two year contract – NBA News
The Brooklyn Nets completed their starting list for next season when they agreed to re-sign free agent power forward Kris Humphries to a two year contract.
ESPN.com’s Marc Stein has reported that the two year deal is worth $24 million, capping off an offseason spending spree by the Brooklyn bound Nets, who seemed to have been given an unlimited budget by Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov.
"Kris has been a very consistent player for us over the past two years. He has developed into one of the top rebounding forwards in the league, and we are very pleased to welcome him back,” said Nets General Manager Billy King
is a statement released by the club.
The news marks the end of a long and busy post season and free agency for King, but one that brought great success to the club. King re-signed free agent point guard Deron Williams, free agent small forward Gerald Wallace, free
agent centre Brook Lopez, apart from trading with the Atlanta Hawks for small forward Joe Johnson.
The addition of Humphries has the starting five of the Brooklyn Nets sorted, and the roster has shaped up to a formidable one.
Humphries was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, and joined the Nets in a midseason trade during the 2009-2010 NBA season. Famous for his short lived and controversial marriage
with Kim Kardashian, Humphries played for the Nets last season on a one year contract, where he averaged 13.8 points and 8 rebounds per game, both career highs. He improved his game to become a great rebounder and will add to the Nets strengths, especially
considering that Brook Lopez struggles on the boards.
Humphries was initially rumoured to be the subject of trade talks between the Brooklyn Nets and the Orlando Magic, as the Nets made an attempt to land All Star centre Dwight Howard. However, the talks failed and the Nets re-signed
centre Brook Lopez before offering Humphries a two year contract.
The seven footer will now play alongside Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez in the starting line-up for the Nets, as they attempt to return to Eastern Conference glory.
