Brooklyn Nets try out free agent centre Eddy Curry and Hilton Armstrong – NBA News
According to various reports, free agent centre Eddy Curry has worked out with the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, as the Nets continue with their pursuit of finding a backup centre for Brook Lopez.
There are also reports that the Nets would be working out free agent centre Hilton Armstrong, who played in France this past season.
Curry is a 10 year veteran of the NBA, and has played with the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat and the New York Knicks over the course of his career. During his peak in the 2006-07 NBA season, Curry averaged 19.5 points and 7 rebounds
for the Knicks over the course of the season. Last season, he played sparingly for the Miami Heat, making the playing roster in only 14 games. He averaged 2.1 points and 0.9 rebounds per game in that season.
The Nets have 13 players signed to their roster so far and are still looking for a backup centre, who can play behind Lopez. The Nets recently agreed on a non-guaranteed deal with small forward Donte Greene. However, Greene fractured
his ankle during an offseason workout on Saturday, and will be needing surgery. His injury brought an end to his deal with the Nets for the time being.
Green’s agent, Chris Luchey, talked to ESPNNewYork.com and said:
“He's holding up. He's excited about the Nets, to be honest. He had a good visit with them even after the incident in (the) Nets' office. So he's very optimistic and appreciates how they feel about him. We're confident in the end
it'll all work out and eventually I believe and he believes he'll don the Brooklyn Nets' jersey this season."
Greene was supposed to be a back up for starting small forward Gerald Wallace. The Nets have undergone an amazing roster improvement this offseason to coincide with the franchise moving to Brooklyn, and have generated a great deal
of excitement around the basketball club. They are currently in the process of adding final touches to the roster, an impressive one that was assembled after the Nets signed contracts worth more than $300 million in the summer.
