Brooks Conrad shines as Atlanta Braves defeat Colorado Rockies 9-6 - MLB Update
Atlanta Braves’ second baseman, Brooks Conrad had an outstanding day with the bat as he went 1-for-4 with an average of .242 and hit one RBI in the Braves’ 9-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on July 21.
The Rockies took a beautiful start as they scored four runs in the first two innings of the game. At the bottom of the first inning, Carlos Gonzalez hit a solo homer (419 feet) towards right-centre to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead. During the second inning,
the Rockies accelerated their lead by smashing three runs to take a 4-0 lead.
Dexter Fowler tripled to right-field while Ian Stewart and Chris Iannetta both scored two mutual runs for the Rockies. Fowler added the third run for his team by stealing the home plate. On the other side, the Braves posted three runs to cut their deficit
4-3, at the top of the third inning. Jason Heyward struck a two-run homer (383 feet) towards right-centre and Martin Prado scored a single run.
Alex Gonzalez hit a grounder to short-stop position and Freddie Freeman posted one run to lift the momentum of the Braves. In the fourth inning, Tommy Hanson was grounded out to second base, Prado flied out to left-field and Heyward struck-out looking without
taking even a single run.
Hanson was expensive for the Braves as he permitted six runs on seven hits in his six inning pitches, including six earned runs with an ERA of 3.06. He struck-out seven batters and gave up a solo homer and one walk on his 99 pitches.
The Braves went ahead 5-4 in the fifth inning by scoring two runs. Freeman homered (425 feet) towards centre-field and Conrad added one run on the single-run shot of Nate McLouth to centre-field. Alex Gonzalez moved to second base at the end of fifth inning.
The Rockies got a 6-5 lead during the sixth inning when Troy Tulowitzki and Seth Smith both added two runs jointly.
In the seventh inning, the Braves accelerated their lead 9-6 by exploding four quick runs. Conrad homered (386 feet) to left-field while Alex Gonzalez, McLouth and Wilkin Ramirez each singled to complete a four-run seventh inning.
The Braves were able to tie the four-game series 2-2 after this convincing victory.
