Brooks Koepka hopes to get a company of more Americans at the Challenge Tour
The American golf professionals usually prefer Web.com Tour over any other tour of the same prestige to showcase their skills and earn spots in bigger Tours such as the PGA Tour.
However, the European Challenge Tour has succeeded in attracting many Americans to play regularly in Europe. Brooks Koepka is one of the emerging golf players who has decided to give a kick start to his career in Europe.
Last month, he appeared in the US and turned pro right after that. He then had two options, either to play on the PGA Web.com Tour or the European Challenge Tour. He opted to travel to Europe to step into the pro golf.
He made his professional debut at the English Challenge held last week and posted a tied seventh place finish in the end. He now expects the other Americans to come and join the Challenge Tour and take the most of it.
Former US Amateur Champion Peter Uilhlein is another name who started playing full-time on the tour right from the start of the 2012 golf season.
Last week, many American players including Trent Leon and Byeong-hun An also took part in the English Challenge.
According to Koepka, the Challenge Tour provides a great chance to the young players to polish their skills while preparing for the tournaments of high standards.
“It’s awesome over here,” he said. “I love it. I'm trying to keep playing over here on the Challenge Tour and hopefully after the good week last week I can get a couple more good finishes”.
“I know Peter (Uihlein) and Scott (Pinckney) really well so it’s fun to get to see them. I played against them in college and to come over here and see them is nice,” he added.
“I think you’re going to see more and more Americans come over here over time. Especially with the changes they’re doing with Qualifying School in the USA, more guys will come over”.
He believes that the Challenge Tour has all that is it takes to be the best tour in the world. He said that one can really become a complete player by playing against the best players in Europe.
