Shouldn't Ray Shero step it up? Think the Pens could be in trouble yet?

  1. Shero is blowing it

  2. mmmph. I'm upset that Malone's gone, Hossa wants to test free agency and now i have to worry about Orpik leaving when i was JUST STARTING to like him..

  3. dont forget we have Alex Goligoski on the baby Pens. He can replace Orpik. He's a hard hitter, and I think he is ready for the NHL, he proved himself by helping his team make it to the Calder Cup Finals. If the Orps his the Bricks, Goligoski sticks.

  4. if he wants Orpik bad enough .. ......also did you read the part of what his brother said Buffalo is one of the places Brooks would like to play

  5. I still have faith Brooksie will be back.

They're still talking. He hasn't said anything negative yet. Shero just needs to step up his game. Just get Brooks signed.

I'm slowly begining to resent Shero, but right now I'm just believing in him. What else can I do? Right him a hate letter and tell him to start doing something? I wish.

I'm just going to relax from now until the season starts.

Shero has proven himself before. I was cussing him out at the trade deadline for trading Armstrong and Christensen, but it proved to be worth it.

Just sit back, and don't worry. We're still a good team. We still have Crosby, Malkin, Gonchar, Whitney, Fleury, Staal and plenty of other young ones.

I'm going to shut up now and just have faith in Ray. Hopefully he doesn't let me down or else I'll throw a fit.

  6. Ray Shero is doing a good job with the money he has to do it with. And his top player to sign was Hossa, but Hossa wants to test free agency so he moved on to work with Orpik.  Orpik wants a long term deal, and I'm pretty sure he'll get one.  As far as the penguins being in trouble, I don't think so yet.  Remember they still have Marc-Andre Fleury in net, Rob Scuderi to block shots, Sergei Gonchar and Whitney to play the point, and Malkin Crosby and Staal to center the top three lines.  They're good!

  7. No, it's only the first offer.

  8. Shero is blowing it big time. He has just NOW made his first offer to Orpik. Why did he wait so long? What about the other unsigned players? Are they even going to get offers? Like did Shero take a vacation after the cup or something? Is he just now getting to work? Shero needs to step it up starting last week!

  9. no way are we in trouble. i think he just wants to see if there are better offers out there, just like Hossa is. and to be honest i wouldnt be depressed and heartbroken if he does go. he is good and i like him but we have others.

  10. Ive been saying the Pens are in trouble for months..You cant sign everyone and you cant blame players for wanting as much as they can get......It will be worse next year

  11. Can we actually wait until July 1st to see who leaves before we all start blaming Shero.  First off, an professional athlete has a fairly short time to make income that he will need FOR HIS ENTIRE LIFE.  A lot of these guys are going to listen to an offer but still go out July 1st to test the waters.  If they find that their market value is close to what their own team is offering, I'm sure they will stay.  Athletes will almost always try to maximize their earning potential.  I'm sure if Hossa and or Orpik go out and find that other teams wont offer them a lot more than the Pens, then they could very well come back.....same with the marginal players who likely think their value is increased bc they were on a "Stanley Cup finals" team. I will save any criticisms on Shero until we ACTUALLY see who stays or goes.

  12. I understand that Brooks Orpik and Ryan Malone were very important to the Pens this year. However, with the visibility these guys got, they are going to get overpaid by someone.

Both these guys were good - not great. They are both mid-level guys but will command Mid-High money, probably close to $5M/yr each. They are also replaceable. Guys like J Staal, Malkin, Letang, and Fleury are NOT. Offer Orpik that money today, and you'll be loathing his contract in 2 years.

So to answer the question, the best GMs will make decisions void of emotion. In this case Shero should not 'step it up' and sign these players to contracts that Pens fans will regret in the future.

  13. Don't break they bank of Orpik let him get his "big one" their are other Orpik's out there and probably in their farm system
