Brose Baskets Bamberg destroy KK Zagreb 96-65 – Euroleague Basketball Recap
Game-1 of the group B between Brose Baskets Bamberg and KK Zagreb turned out to be a one sided affair as Brose crushed Zagreb 96-65 in front of the capacity crowd at the Stechert Arena.
For Brose, all the big players contributed. Anthony Tucker stole the show with 20 points and 5 rebounds, Casey Jacobson and Marcus Slaughter scored16 points each and Predrag Suput also chipped in with 15 points.
Markus Slaughter was overjoyed with his performance as it was his first ever Euroleague game. Expressing his pleasure, he said
"It was extra special for me because it was my first Euroleague game. It was a great win for us. We played strong defense and protected our home court. We ran a lot on the fast break and forced a lot of turnovers."
For KK Zagreb, Krunoslav Simon was the most impressive player and ended with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Other players around him however looked off beat and failed to find baskets consistently which eventually became the cause for
this massive loss.
Shedding light on what went wrong and expressing his disappointment, Simon said
"We dug a hole at the start of the game and we were not able recover the whole game. It was our plan to start the game aggressively and stop their offensive rebounds but we could not do that the whole game. It’s a sad loss at the
start of the Euroleague."
Predrag started the proceedings by scoring a two pointer in the first minute which was quickly answered by Mario Kasun of Zagreb. Simon gave his team the lead by scoring a layup, but Brose successfully constituted a 7 point run
to push Brose to a 14-6 advantage.
Anthony Tucker took over at that point and kept on scoring to extend the lead to 11 points late in the frame. The quarter ended with Brose leading by 10 points at 26-16
The second quarter started well for Zagreb as they not only managed to reduce the deficit but also successfully held Brose scoreless for 3 minutes. A layup shot by Anthony however broke the jinx and was immediately followed by
a three-pointer by Julius Jenkins. That set the tone for rest of the quarter.
Brose just never stopped on the offense and by the end of half found themselves leading by 52-30
The third quarter turned out to be a three-pointer fest. Jenkins opened the second half with a layup shot to extend Brose’s lead to 24 points; however, two consecutive three-pointers by Zagreb slashed the deficit by four. Brose
though were up to the challenge and after dominating the rest of the frame, the ended it with three 3-pointers, increasing their lead to a decisive 30 points at 80-50
The last quarter was a mere formality. Brose scoring stagnated but it didn’t matter at that time.
