My stupid printer, keeps telling me that my black ink needs changing. It was replaced about a month ago and has been bearly used and I can tell there is quite a lot of ink still in it. The same goes for the Magenta. I desperately need to print out 1 piece of paper tonight in colour as part of my CV. Is there any way I can get it to work, by changing something in the printer properties or something. I was so angry as it does this constantly, I was going to just go and buy a new one but nothing was open as it is Sunday here. Please help me i'm going crazy.

  1. I have one of this stupid printer myself. I have had this trouble before. It won't work no matter what you do.  I check this on the "Brother"; the printer was built in this way; if it said no ink, you have to replace the cartridge, otherwise, it won't work.

  2. No you need to replace the cartridge.  Brother actually reads your ink level optically so it is pretty much the most accurate ink level on a printer out there.

You cannot override this message.  A brother printer will leave a residual 5-10% of ink in the cartridge as a design feature.   This ensures the print head is properly flooded, so although you can see ink, it is not usable ink.
