i need ideas for my brother-in laws 40th birthday. I don't see him very often, and have no clue what to get him. Any ideas would be great.

I would ask your husband, or is it your sister?  Whoever it is that connects you to this man, what they think he would like, since they would know him pretty well and be likely to give you better answers than, say, ones about hookers (even if you aren't morally opposed, they're just darn expensive!).

Get him an American Express gift card with the appropriate dollar amount that you think is acceptable.

This way he can buy whatever he wants for himself and is less tacky then a check or cash.
