Question:

Brown Decalcification???

I wear beaces, recently drank alot of coke and didnt brush the inbetweens very well. I can notice now that there are brown stains on some of the teeth.

My first question is: is this classed as decalcification as its not white but brown instead?

My second question is: how can i get rid of it, either now or after i take my braces off? Please more than just "they are there forever just dont let them get worse". Can anything at all be done cosmetically.

by the way, they are not spots, rather patches covering the bottom half of my lower teeth.

Thank you

  1. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it'll be classed as decalcification...yet.

Dental cavities usually show up at first as chalky white spots on the tooth enamel, which indicates the decalcification process. It is a good idea to improve oral hygiene at the onset of such white spots in order to avoid irreversible damage. Sometimes stains can turn into cavities, but not for years sometimes, because the enamel has been weakened.

If it's just staining you can whiten the stains when you have your braces taken off if you want to.
