Brown Panther triumphs in Totepool Pontefract Castle Stakes – Horseracing news
Brown Panther displayed great speed in the Totepool Pontefract Castle Stakes (Listed Race), winning the class-1 event by a clear margin of three and a half lengths.
The winning trainer Tom Dascombe appreciated his challenger and said, “He didn't run very well first time out in the last two years so Andy Jackson the head lad and all the team put a lot of effort in and we have really wound him up. We had him pretty ready
today. Richard said he was very rusty but he was fit.”
He added, “He fell asleep in the stalls and just missed the break but that was good as he has been a very keen horse in previous years. I haven't spoken to the bosses yet but he is in a Group 2 at Newmarket in a couple of weeks' time and we'll see what they
want to do.”
This was Brown Panther’s first race of the season and he was expected to be a touch rusty. However, he did not show any signs of that and made his team proud at the end of the day. He was priced 11 to 8 for the competition, which was not bad at all, considering
the fact that he had been out of action for eight months.
The five-year-old horse was held up in the opening stages of the race, but gained controlled of things soon. He kept on making up places and got into the lead entering the final furlong. From that point onwards, there was no stopping him.
Overall, this was the 15th outing for the seasoned horse, who has now won six events in his career. If he continues delivering such performances, he will definitely gain more confidence and will be able to represent his camp at the highest level.
On the other hand, Main Sequence disappointed his fans in the race, as he ended up fourth despite being rated as the evens favourite. This was the third consecutive time he failed to meet the expectations of the bookies, which means that he might not get
the best odds for the next event he takes part in, especially if it is a group or listed race.
