Brown spots in my lawn HELP!!?

I moved in a brand new house where the bermuda sod had been layed down for a couple of months before I moved in. There are bare spots/patches across my front lawn, and weeds spots everywhere :-(

So I took some advice and planted some Scotts fertilizer w. weed killer.

After that I bought some round up to kill some of the weeds individually.

The directions on the fertilizer said not to water until 24hrs later.

I waited the 24 hrs and I noticed brown spots in my lawn, and now I'm freaking out b/c I may have killed my lawn.

If anyone can tell me what's going on and what it is that I need to do from here.

Details that will help with your answer:

-Bermuda Grass

-Oklahoma

-I water pretty much every other day in the afternoon.

  1. If you have a sprikler system turn it up to at least  1 hour a day! if you dont sprikler system then leave your sprikler on your lawn for an hour. It should work. It would better if you did it  at night time!

  2. why did you spray round up? that kills every thing.  Ortho Weed B Gone is what you use on established lawns.  You are going to have to take all the areas of dead grass out and replant new grass and don't spray any more round up.

If you water in the afternoon and at night your lawn won't have the day to dry out and you will get fungus.  Not to mention the wind is usually at its strongest in the afternoon and evening so your water is thrown all over the place.  You should be

watering early in the morning (4-5 am) so the grass has the day to dry out.  I take care of many yards whose owners have their sprinklers running at night and their lawns are infested with fungus.

Next year get pre emergent weed control down (Scotts w/halts) early in the spring and most of the weeds will be taken care of.  Then the few that are left can be treated with ortho weed b gone spray.  The Scotts plus 2 is nice however it has to be applied when the grass is wet so it sticks to the weeds and kills them and you can't water or have rain for 24 hours.  Many people don't take the time to follow these instructions and the fertilizer doesn't have any effect on the weeds which is why it is better to stick to the liquid weed control.

  3. if you sprayed round up on  your grass it WILL kill it that stuff kills everything...if i were you i would not put nothing down for a while the scotts you put down will be enough for a while...read the scotts bag..that stuff is great.....the brown spots in your lawn from the scotts is it killing weeds. also try watering at night when the lawn will stay moist longer...roots do great when they go deep into the soil....make the roots search for the water......
