I need a substitute for 1 cup of brown sugar for a brownie recipe, but I have no molasses. Is it possible to substitute honey or pancake syrup for the molasses in brown sugar substitute recipes?

  1. Use some white sugar and a couple spoonfulls of pancake syrup. Don't use all syrup or it will be to runny I bet.

  2. Actually, my favorite brownie recipe is one I took off the cocoa can years ago - "honeybear brownies". It includes either 1/2C honey or 1/4C light corn syrup, and 3/4C white sugar. That's for a square pan. I usually double the recipe and put it in the oblong pan.

  3. Ok, my cookbook says to use in place of 1 cup of brown sugar use 1 cup granulated sugar plus 2 tbsp molasses OR dark corn syrup.
