Hi,

I have just found (what i think is) a brown tail moth in my house. Having done a bit of reading there seems to be some issues around pest control and they are typically found in Southern England. My house is in North Wales. Are they common in this area? And are they going to eat all my plants?

  1. They live on a diet of house bricks especially the damp ones below the actual damp course.  Go out every night and carry a small hammer to bonk them with.  One small tap will put them off their evening meal and save the house.  You can call out the local council who have an expert who will do the tapping but the man does not work weekends and you will also get a large bill for this service.  You could take a trip to your local pet shop to see if they stock a type of large land crab that will eat the pests but although they can scuttle very quickly over short distances, getting right round the house will tire them out.  You may need to invest in three or four... Good luck on your evening safari's..................
