i found a snake the other night at work. i ended up keeping him. i soon found out that it is a baby brown water snake. i have been trying to feed it some feeder fish but he is not eating them. im kinda worried that it is going to die on me. i have been trying to look on the web to see if any one has ever owned a water snake as a pet and how the tank should be setup, but no luck. my question realy is trying to find a way for this baby brown water snake to start eating. so far i have a 10 gal. tank with a nice size bowl for it to swim in with the feeder fish in it, the rest of the tank is filled with pebble rocks on the bottom of the tank and a place for it to hide under. it seems to like the dark. like most other snakes.

  1. keeping wild snakes as pets is a recipe for death wild snakes do not thrive in captivity they develop parasites and become dependant on you for it's needs let it go it will survive if you want a pet snake go to a reputable breeder i'm sure you can find one they will also be able to help you decide on a beginner snake and one that interests you the most do a little research n see wich snake best fits what you would like to have goodluck

  2. Let the snake go. It was born in the wild, hence it is a wild animal. Some snakes are ok to keep as pets, but they are hand-raised. Wildlife rehabilitators are the only folks with enough credibility to "own" a wild animal. If it's unsafe to let the snake go back where you found it (i.e. near a parking lot, near a building site, etc.), look for a similar place away from the general human population. Don't worry about what he'll eat, he'll figure it out for himself. Nature takes care of it's own.
