Browne appointed selector of West Indies
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board has included a new member in the selection committee. The WICB decided to go ahead with the recommendation of the review committee and included former stumper, Courtney Browne in the panel of cricket selectors, that already includes chairman Clyde Butts and Robert Haynes. Browne comes in place of Raphick Jumadeen after his term got over on 31 July and was not renewed.

The chairman thanked the cricket board for the extension of his contract and also welcomed the new member on board. Butts said that he looked forward to working with both, the selectors and the coach of the West Indian side, Otis Gibson.

Browne is a 39-year old former player from Barbados, and played for the West Indies in 66 internationals. His batting average in both, Tests and ODIs was below average, but he was a good wicket-keeper. His 20 Test matches came in a span of ten years, where he competed with Ridley http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacobs-c65213 for a spot in the side.

Browne said that given that he has played cricket with many of the cricketers associated with the West Indies cricket today, he should be able to associate with the players, a lot more.

Post retirement from the game, Browne has had many roles in the West Indian cricket. He was one of the alternate selectors alongside the previous set consisting of Stuart http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034 and Nehemiah Perry. He had earlier been the captain of his domestic team of Barbados, and then, went on to head the Barbados Cricket Association selection panel. He was also the Barbados manager for some time.

Browne was interviewed by a panel consisting of Ernest Hilaire, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joel-Garner-c67141, Clive Lloyd and WICB chief cricket operations officer Tony Howard. Browne and many other former West Indian and domestic players were interviewed for the post before the job fell in the laps of Browne.

Chris Gayle is the West Indian captain and the side has struggled in recent times. In fact, the West Indian team has won only one out of their last 18 Test match series, which is a poor record for a side which was the best ever in the 1980s.
