Browns’ wide out Joshua Cribbs says many players do not report concussions – NFL News
As the controversy surrounding the handling of head injury that Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy had suffered last week continues, Browns wideout Joshua Cribbs has made a stunning revelation that a majority of football players
do not report concussions to medical staff to help themselves keep playing the game inspite of a head injury.
Cribbs went on to say that he even himself had tried to play through a game despite having suffered a concussion in 2010, which could lead to the National Football League (NFL) and NFL Players Association (NFLPA) to become aware
of the gravity of the problem.
He said that it was typical mentality of the football players that if they report the concussion they will definitely be out of the side for a certain period of time. Since concussion is a one-way ticket to the sideline many players
prefer not to report the injury to team’s medical staff and keep playing instead, he added.
"A lot of guys don't report concussions," Cribbs was quoted in a report by the Canton Repository on Monday. He had also pointed out his concussion he had suffered last season as a result of a hit with Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker
James Harrison. "I had a concussion," Cribbs said. "I wanted to go back in. Guys are thinking they've got to support their families," he said.
It is pertinent to note that James Harrison is again subject of a hit to Brown’s Colt McCoy. He has already been suspended for one game by the NFL. This was his fifth foul in last three years.
Cribbs revelation comes on the heel of a review of the handling of McCoy’s affair being conducted by the NFL and NFLPA. McCoy was injured in Browns game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.
The player was out on the sideline for about four minutes before returning back to play again. Browns coach Pat Shurmur said that the player apparently looked ok and therefore was allowed to go back on to the field.
Browns however have come under fire for their decision to allow him return to the field to resume his game despite that there were indicators he had suffered a concussion.
