Browser doesn't respond to url searches. Can access favorite sites. Tab browsing function won't respond, help.

Question

This is new problem. Browser functioned ok, last time it was used. Once a websearch is initiated from homepage, or from blank page, response is nill. the wait "hourglass" and "not repsonding" is all I can get. Must close browser.

Any comments on why browser is acting in this manner?

You might have a virus that replaced some important system files from internet explorer.  If you don't have virus protection, get some. If you have it, update it then run a full system check.  Try an adaware program as well. You could have some crappy downloaded toolbar or something that's trying to run. If all else fails, try using system restore to go back to a previous time when you didn't have this problem (but backup any imporant documents on disks/jump drives first).
