Bruce Arena hails Manchester United’s new boy Javier Hernandez’s ability
Former coach of the USA national team Bruce Arena believes that the gamble to sign Javier Hernandez from Chivas has worked extremely well. Hernandez played his first match for his new club when he was sent to substitute winger Nani in the 63rd minute. His dream came true when he responded the move by scoring his first ever goal.
Bruce was present at the time when the Mexican made his team debut for Manchester United who appreciated the outstanding goal by Hernandez against the MLS All-Stars. United won 5-2 on the day, as youngsters Federico Macheda (2), Darren Gibson and Thomas Cleverly found the net. Hernandez however stole the show, as he showcased his blazing speed and immaculate finishing, winning the heart of all the United fans.
Hernandez officially joined United on July 1. However, a pre-transfer deal was struck with his former club Chivas Guadalajara a few months prior due to which 7 million pounds were paid for his services.
While talking to a local reporter, the Los Angeles Galaxy coach stated that Manchester United enjoyed the finest Global scouting program, and are always well aware of any potential future great players. The coach stated that United were aware of Hernandez’s ability, and therefore signed him, which has really worked well for the club. Arena expects Hernandez to learn a lot from Manchester United and predicts a bright future for the Mexican. Bruce claimed that Hernandez has the ability to become one the game’s finest one day and would be an amazing player for the Red Devils.
There were many speculations surrounding the player and was expected to be loaned out. But manager Sir Alex Ferguson has clarified that he has no intentions to loan out the player and would play Hernandez in the coming season. Both Macheda and Hernandez would be there to fight for their place against regulars Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen. Other strikers such as Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf would most probably be loaned out to other teams to gain more experience.
"I need to keep Macheda and Hernandez. There was a lot of purpose in the way they played their football,” claimed the Red Devil’s manager. The manager claimed that to play for a club like United, a player needs something more than just raw talent and both of these youngsters had that X-factor needed to survive in United.
Sir Alex believed that the young striker had abilities similar to that of English International Wayne Rooney, who couldn’t play owing to a prolonged post World Cup break. Ferguson however hinted for a combination of the two to play upfront for the team, claiming that some minor adjustments would be needed since both of them are analogous. The manager promised to assess Hernandez’s strengths and weaknesses and get him to play consistently. Manchester United play a 38-match season in the EPL along with the FA Cup, Carling Cup and the UEFA Champions League, which gives them 50 matches every season on the minimum side. This excludes the international duties as well. Along with that, Ferguson would want to assess the player’s situation in the premier league, which is considered to be one of toughest in the world due to the weather along with harsh tackles and a demanding style of play.
Ferguson stated there were some minor things that needed to be fixed in the player but was confident that once the player gets accustomed to United’s training sessions, the results would clearly come out to the fore. Nearly one million Mexicans reside in Houston and when Hernandez scored, the crowd went crazy. The stadium accommodated some 70,000 fans and all of them celebrated Hernandez’s wonder strike.
It would be a special treat for the young Mexican when he accompanies United to their last match of the pre-season tour. The Red Devil’s play Javier’s previous club, Chivas Guadalajara in their final pre-season match, and Hernandez is to play one half each for both the clubs.
