Bruce Baker: Five other bodies were ready to sanction Chisora vs. Haye – Boxing News
Bruce Baker is among the organisers of Dereck Chisora vs. David Haye bout scheduled for July 14. In his recent interview, Baker revealed that not just Luxembourg Boxing Federation, but other bodies were interested as well in sanctioning the fight. Bruce
Baker is the chairman of the Professional Boxing Promoters Association and he also represents the IBF in Britain.
Bruce revealed, “There were [other] European federations that approached me.”
He added, “I have been approached by at least five other federations who would love to license and sanction this fight. One thing is 100% certain. Subject to both boxers being fit, come 14 July at West Ham there will be a properly regulated and sanctioned
show involving Mr Chisora and Mr Haye. There is no question, because nobody is doing anything illegal. It will be sanctioned by a governing body. I think they probably fear what they perceive to be adverse publicity, which has been exaggerated by the BBBoC.”
Bruce also stated his concerns regarding the British Board of Boxing Control’s warning for officials against taking part in the event. He said he is worried about the whole situation. On the other hand, Frank Warren, promoter, is already on a clash with
the BBBC against its decision. Frank Warren was individually warned by the BBBC. Last week, he revealed through his website that he would be suing the BBBC for not letting fighters participate in an event.
According to Warren, BBBC’s decision of not letting fighters participate in the event is illegal and it is a threat. Warren further said that even though Chisora and Haye do not hold British licenses, they still are professional boxers and they are not banned
from the sport.
For now, David Haye and Dereck Chisora’s grudge match has already garnered enough public support to keep the event going. Despite several rumours of the event being cancelled, Frank Warren announced that the fight would happen at any cost on the scheduled
date. Similarly, Chisora and Haye have confirmed the event’s happening as well in their recent press conference. Both the pugilist are excited about going head to head to settle score in the ring once and for all.
