Bruce Chen’s pitching helps Kansas City Royals defeat Chicago White Sox 11-1 - MLB Update
Kansas City Royals’ starter, Bruce Chen had a tremendous day with the ball as he threw eight innings and struck-out four batters with an ERA of 3.98 in the Royals’ 11-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago on September 23.
Melky Cabrera reached to third base on an infield single but Lorenzo Cain lined out to centre-field without taking any run during the first inning. Billy Butler hit a grounder into double play, third to second base and second to first base but Cabrera got
out at second base. Similarly, White Sox left-fielder Juan Pierre ground out to the pitcher, Alexei Ramirez popped out and Paul Konerko flied out without any run contribution.
Royals scored one run in the second inning to get a 1-0 lead. Eric Hosmer hit a one-run homer (420 feet) towards centre-field to give the Royals their initial run. At the top of third inning, Royals led off 3-0 by taking two runs. Alcides Escobar contributed
a single run when Cabrera ground out to second base and Cain moved to third base. The second run was taken by Cain when Butler hit a sacrifice fly to right-field.
In the fourth inning, Royals advanced to 7-0 when their batters blasted four runs quickly. Salvador Perez struck a three-run homer (407 feet) to right-centre while Jeff Francoeur and Mike Moustakas both added two collective runs. Escobar also homered (367
feet) towards left-field to complete a four-run campaign for Kansas City.
Francoeur hit a two-run homer (360 feet) towards left-field and Hosmer scored one run to give the Royals a 9-0 lead at the top of fifth inning. Chen surrendered two hits, one run, one homer, one walk and one earned run on his 102 pitches.
At the bottom of seventh inning, Konerko hit a solo homer (392 feet) towards left-centre to add up the first run for the White Sox and reduced their lead 9-1. Royals’ batters contributed a couple of runs in the eighth inning to raise their lead 11-1. Johnny
Giavotella scored one run on the wild pitch of White Sox reliever Jason Frasor.
The final run was contributed by Cabrera when Butler drove towards left-field. As a result, Royals were on top with a 1-0 lead in the three-game series against the White Sox at Chicago.
