Bruins head coach Claude Julien delighted to stay with Boston -NHL Update
The end of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season marked the end of Claude Julien’s five-year stay with Boston Bruins and a year after he gave the franchise their first Stanley Cup championship in over four decades.
"I love the organization, I love the city, I think my family is extremely happy here, so I couldn't ask for a better situation for myself personally," a delighted Claude Julien said.
Awarding Julien for his services with the team along with being such a valuable asset, the Boston Bruins decided to extend his contract with the Eastern Conference club for another couple of years, of which the exact term has not been disclosed from either
side.
Obviously, keeping as much of the 2011 Stanley Cup winning team intact was the main objective of general manager, Peter Chiarelli, and that definitely meant having Claude Julien continuing to work behind the bench.
"When we made the commitment to try and keep the core of this team together following our Cup win, we embarked on signing some key players before free agency," Chiarelli said during a news conference. "We feel we've come a long way toward keeping the critical
mass together for this team, because we feel it's a strong team and continues to be a strong team. One of the core components in this critical mass is sitting beside me, our coach, Claude Julien."
Boston Bruins is the first major league club Julien has overlooked as a head coach after 10 years of experience in the minor, American Hockey League (AHL). His record with Boston in 410 games stands at an impressive 228-132-50, making him one of the best
in the franchise’s history.
Last season, as Boston looked to defend their Stanley Cup title, the Bruins faced much disappointment after being routed by rookie goalie, Braden Holtby, and Washington Capitals in the quarterfinals.
Next season will definitely be one which Bruins are looking forward to and need to bounce back in order to maintain themselves as one of the best in the league and having Claude Julien on the club, doing so should not be as hard as it looks.
