Bruins keep Panthers’ offence in Czech for first win
After a weekend where the Boston Bruins signed Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara to contract extensions, they also got their first win of the season.
Playing their second game in the Czech Republic the Bruins got their first win, and shutout, of the season as they beat the Phoenix Coyotes 3-0 in Prague.
Tim Thomas made 29 saves and new off-season addition Nathan Horton scored his third goal in two games to help the Bruins earn a split in their European adventure.
“It's nice to get goals and to contribute, to help the team win. We had a little letdown in the first game and tonight we bounced back and turned things around and we played quite well," Horton said after the game.
Milan Lucic gave the Bruins the lead in the second period following an assist from Horton. Horton then added another for Boston with a wrist shot after great work from David Krejci, with just 33 seconds left in the period.
Bruins coach Claude Julien was pleased with the way his team bounced back from the 5-2 defeat to the Coyotes in the previous game.
“A much better play from the whole team, more aggressive. We put pressure on them. Puck management was much, much better, and that made a big difference.
"If you looked at the team yesterday and you looked at it today, I think you saw two different teams. We hope to see the team that played the second game more than the team that played the first one," Julien said.
Boston’s first-round draft pick and second overall , Tyler Seguin scored his first professional goal on a breakaway in the third period.
“It feels great, I’m glad that’s out of the way, I’m glad our team could bounce back after last night’s loss,” the 18-year-old said.
