Bruins overcome Panthers 3-2 after shootout
Blake Wheeler scored the only goal of the shootout to help the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers.
After a cautious start to the match, both teams began orchestrating some wonderful attacking moves once they had settled into the game. Both sides managed to create openings, but neither team was able to score any goals during the course of the period.
The period ended with the scores deadlocked at nil-nil. During the course of the period, Boston Bruins made 12 goal attempts, while the Florida Panthers made 10 goal attempts.
The sides exploded once again at the start of the period. The brilliant offensive play from both sides was causing trouble for the respective defences. Each team worked hard, but it was the Florida Panthers who broke the deadlock with a goal in the
second minute. The goal was scored by David Booth from powerful shot, which went flying into the back of the net.
It took the Boston Bruins some time to respond, but they eventually scored in the 10th minute. The goal was scored by David Krejci from a wonderful backhand shot. The scores weren’t level for long, and in the 16th minute Mike
Santorelli scored for the Florida Panthers once again to put them in the lead. The period ended with the home team leading 2-1 at the break, as they made 11 goal attempts compared to the Boston Bruins 14 goal attempts.
Both teams attacking approach to the game continued in the third period. The Bruins were rewarded for their persistence, as they scored once again in the 11th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by David Krejci, who bagged
his second of the night.
Though there were numerous goal attempts by both sides, the final period didn’t see any further goals. The scores were level at 2-2 at the end of regulation time, with 12 goal attempts made by each team in the period. The match went into overtime
as a result of the scores being level, and when the stalemate could not be broken, the game went to a shootout. Blake Wheeler was the lone scorer in the shootout to give the Bruins a 3-2 win.
