Bruise takes New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter out of the game – MLB News
Derek Jeter is in the news once again and this time it is due to an injury that can prove worrying. Jeter had to leave the game being played against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, July 31 when he was hit by a ball on his right hand.
"I've been hit in my hand before, it's not broken," Jeter said. "As long as I can throw and swing, then I'll play." Although he did not strike a note that could betray disappointment or a worry about his ability to play in the upcoming games, the ball seemed
to be coming too fast to play.
It was the Orioles’ Jake Arrieta who tossed a pitch that caught Jeter off-guard and culminated in hurting him. As much as it was unexpected, the Yankees gave him the chance to play until he had to be later called off.
The Yankees’ Jeter was replaced by Francisco Carvelli in the fourth inning largely because the star hitter and the team’s captain did not seem in perfect shape to continue the game any longer.
The last report that came and made news in the mainstream media was that that the Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter had got X-rays done which – much to the immediate relief of him and the team-mates alike, did not show any signs of a break.
The X-rays carried out have only shown a middle finger bruise which – as the team media experts say, would not keep Jeter away from the game for long. The news raised alarm bells partly because Jeter had only returned after remaining in the disabled list
for over two weeks.
Only recently becoming the 28th player to have hit a landmark 3,000th hit lately, Jeter made news around the baseball world for his wonderful achievement. All the same, that hit – important to mention here – did not come easy either.
Prior to have hit the 3,000th hit, Jeter had remained away from the game from similar injury which rendered him unable to swing his bat comfortably. Not only the injury kept him from the game, but also from the landmark achievement he was to make
by having the 3,000th executed.
When asked what he thought of this injury, Jeter said, "You get (hit) once, it hurts; you get hit in the same spot twice, then it's going to hurt a little bit more.”
As the X-rays have shown no worrying outcome of the injury the team-mates and the manager hope that Jeter will soon be seen in action. Importantly, the Yankees need the captain at this hour partly because New York is in a close fight with Boston to occupy
the second position in the MLB rankings.
