Bruised a rib. I need to keep running as I'm preparing for a marthaon in late setember. How should I train?

I recently bruised my ribs while playing the irish sport of hurling. I took a shoulder to the ribs. It didnt knock me completely out of breath but it did hurt like h**l. I must continue training for an upcoming marathon in late september and would like some advice on healing quickly. I would hate to stop training as I have already worked extremely hard this summer to get where I already am. Any suggestions would help. ( Please keep the remarks to healing please )

  1. Tape it up and keep on going.  The body will take care of itself.


  2. Focus on breathing into your belly to minimize the movement in your rib cage.  You may have to cut back a little on the intensity.  Ice the ribs when possible after running, no more 20 minutes with the ice.
