Question:

Bruised bone pain or something else?

I have been having pain on the metatarsal area of my big toe for about 6 months. I went to get X-rays and they didn't find anything. The doctor said it is probably a bruised bone. Can a bruised bone hurt for this long? Anyone else experienced pain for this long with a bruised bone?

thanks

  1. Bruised bones hurt for a LONG time!

I used to figure skate and did it a few times too.. painful!

  2. 3 weeks

  3. Have you checked your foot is still attached to your leg. If not, this will probably affect you for some time.

  4. I don't know if you correctly heard what doctor said but you can't bruise a bone. It is a bone! You can bruise whatever other tissue you have around or near the bone but not the bone itself.

A bruise by definition is a damaged muscle with torn capillary vessels in the area of the bruise. In fact, these vessels give the color to the bruise.

So, in your case the bruise is complicated by the fact that you need to use your feet when you walk, and your toe is disturbed in the process. Once I had the same bruise and it was giving me pain for a long time. I don't remember exactly, but it was about 3 months.

Try applying some ointments that relieve pain and help the bruises to heal. This will quicken the healing process. Besides, try not to step on the foot with the bruise too much.

My, my. Have a look here then

No, really some "doctors" shouldn't be given the right to call themselves doctors. Never thought a bone can be called a soft tissue.

Well, you may call a bone bruised but it will mean quite a different thing than a bruised muscle. It would imply the bone had been hit and lost its normal shape as a result. It doesn't hurt by itself. The nerves that suffered hurt.

  5. i´ve had problems in my leg for almost a year so far from what i´m pretty sure is a bruised bone. i haven´t asked the doctor about it though, so i can´t be entirely sure. its not exactly pain, more like a really tender area that hurts if something presses against it and sometimes when i run or walk.

  6. yes. my mother had a bruised shoulder bone for about as long as you did.  do you wear uncomfortable shoes?

it may be squishing your big toe and not allowing it to heal.

do you play sports with a lot of running currently?  that may be irritating it

you may have also pulled a muscle there?  its hard to see soft tissue in X rays but you could get an MRI but I think they are a waste of time unless its something major..

try buying one of those pedicure toe separators and separating your big toe from your 2nd toe when your at home and ice it regularly but not more than 20 minutes at a time (20 on, 20 off)

and if your doctor says it is the muscle - then take ibuprofen - it will help with any inflammation.
