  4. In French, bruit (pronounce brrwee) means noise. In English it is used as a medical term for a particular abnormal sound heard on examination of, say, the neck (carotid artery) by stethoscope.

  5. I didn't know what this meant until I looked it up.

    It means the noise that can be heard when listening to a partially blocked artery through a stethoscope.
