Brumbies’ Adam Ashley-Cooper signs two-year contract with New South Wales Waratahs
Adam Ashley-Cooper’s six years long career of Super Rugby with Brumbies will come to an end after the ongoing season. Cooper has signed new contract of two years with New South Wales Waratahs for next two Super Rugby seasons.
He joined Brumbies in 2005 and played for them for at least six years. He made the decision of draining towards Waratahs because of personal matters.
Cooper is expected to make the announcement of his decision today evening. In his initial reaction of saying good-bye to Brumbies after this season, he revealed that he wants give more time to his family and girlfriend who are living in Sydney. He is reported
of approaching the Waratahs since last two months.
Ashley-Cooper has also played 51 tests for his national side Australia. He played his last match of the Super Rugby against the Waratahs on last weekend which they lost by29-22.
Earlier on, the Brumbies had tried to convince him to remain with them but he denied their offer. He was supposed to make the announcement during the last week but he delayed it due to Brumbies and Waratahs clash on 26th March. The Brumbies have shown great
disappointment on his quit from the side. The Brumbies officials were unaware of his possible quit from the team by yesterday.
However the Skipper Matt Giteau congratulated him on his new agreement and wished him best of luck in the future. Giteau responded quite calmly after Cooper’s decision and said, “It hasn't been something that we've spoken about so I don't think it's weighing
on the team at all and I don't think it's weighing on Coopy too much, he seems pretty relaxed.”
He further said, “There's nothing you can do and I don't try and get involved in it because there could be something that's weighing on his mind, [which is] why he's [still] deciding.”
On the other hand, it is a matter of great concern for Brumbies who lost four consecutive matches in the Super Rugby championship and Cooper’s quit will add injury to their insult. The Waratahs has confirmed his new deal of two years and they are happy as
Cooper’s inclusion will further strengthen their team.
