Brumbies’ skipper Stephen Hoiles backs side for remaining Super Rugby contests – Rugby News
The injured skipper of Brumbies, Stephen Hoiles has backed up his side after losing to the last placed Lions 29-20 in their Saturday, May 14 clash.
The Brumbies were hit hard by the critics and even their coach Tony Rea did not spare the opportunity.
Rea outburst on his team after the embarrassing defeat and said that his side lacked in commitment. He further outraged the side and said toughness of mind was not there in the team and that they lost most of their matches at crucial stages.
The Brumbies have already sacked one of their coaches, Andy Friend due to bad performances. Andy was removed after the second round of Super Rugby and put in Tony Rea. However, he was unable to pump up the Brumbies and now they have approached Jake White,
former South African coach to uplift the side. They have been placed overall 10th
position in the current Super Rugby.
Hoiles, who is out action before the start of season with an achilles injury, has asked his side to come up for the remaining matches of the season. He advised his team to concentrate more on their game rather than what others say. He admitted that his side
was feeling miserable after stern criticism by their own coach and that morale in the team was low.
He argued and said, “The guys felt gutted and probably humiliated. I have never been in a dressing room that was as quiet as the one on the weekend. Forget about the comments said, the players know things need to improve.”
However Hoiles urged his side to show their best in the forthcoming matches and said, "We just have to move on and if we can't respond to that, who knows what we can respond to."
The assistant coach of the Brumbies’, Stephen Larkham also spoke on the occasion and said that Rea’s comments should inspire the team for better results. The Brumbies will take on Western Force on May 21 in their next match of the Super Rugby championship.
