However, Lazio have rejected the veteran tactician’s resignation and the club’s Director of Communications has informed the press that the matter will be resolved over the weekend.
If Reja is to step down from his managerial capacity at the Stadio Olimpico Rome, Giordano has made his available for the head-coach role. The former Italian international spent a decade at Lazio scoring
regularly for Le Aquile, and became a fan’s favourite during his time with the club.
The former striker admitted that he was approached by President of the capital side, Claudio Lotito “three or four years ago”. The former Pisa manager was talking to RTL 102.5 and during his interview, he
made his intentions clear that he wants to manage Lazio.
The 55-year-old said:
“If a call came now, of course I would be available to talk. Lazio represents an important opportunity for any Coach, let alone for me, who has a loving relationship with these colours.”
The Italian national further showed his commitment by stating that coaching the team will be a dream come true for him. However, Giordano also stated that there is an inherent need for the club to hire someone who is familiar with
the club’s values and understands what it means to be at the helm.
He was quoted to have said,
“It would be an important message and a useful choice for brightening the environment, uniting fans, the team and the management. But he must find a credible name. We need a real Coach, with experience, not one that uses six months
to get to know the players.”
Speculation is rife on the possible replacements for Reja, but the manager has also stated that his decision can be reversed if the club can provide him with adequate guarantees.
