Bruno Senna admits that missing morning sessions has affected performance – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Bruno Senna has admitted that missing out on Friday morning sessions has definitely put a dent on his performance.
Ahead of the Korean Grand Prix last weekend, Senna had decided to sit out the Friday free practice as Valtteri Bottas, the reserve driver for Williams, drove his car through the laps. His session was put on hold again next day as his car suffered front wing
problems. In total, the driver has skipped 12 morning practices during the whole season. During all of these, Bottas was the one to drive his car.
During the race on Sunday, Senna failed to make a Q2 and had to exit at Q1. This was the second time that such failure had to be encountered by the driver during the season. He is blamed it on missing out the practices and confessed that he had not been
expecting it to be so bad.
Teammate Pastor Maldonado has not either performed well but in comparison to Senna, his performance had been better since he won the race at the Spanish Grand Prix. Williams’ has been disappointed with both of their performances.
Talking about having missed the practices and its affects, Senna commented, “To be honest with you I never expected it to be so tough without the first session. Until it happens to you, you don't realise how much trouble it causes. But for sure it's not
like I had much choice, I had to take that, and it was a good bet for me in terms of the team. Nowadays I have a different perspective on giving away all my Fridays of the year to someone else in the first session because if you have one little problem after
that then that's it and the weekend is pretty much over.”
He added that the Formula 1 races are getting so close nowadays that everything can make a huge difference on the positions table. Senna is standing on the sixteenth position with 25 points in the drivers’ championship that is 8 points behind his teammate
at 15th position.
He pointed out that it becomes really difficult for the team to drop you out if you are ahead of your own teammate. He said that there are still four more races to perform in and in Formula 1, the last race matters a lot.
