Bruno Senna asks Williams to tweak FW34 to give it more pace and sharpness – Formula 1 news
Bruno Senna wants the FW34 to be more edgy for the upcoming tests.
Senna drove the new Williams car at the first pre-season test and looked very comfortable driving it. He completed 125 laps and had some good reviews of the car after coming out of the cockpit. He said that the car is reliable and has a good traction which
is a very pleasant change from the previous edition of the car.
Senna’s teammate Pastor Maldonado had similar feeling of the new car when he finished his test run in the car but Senna had some tweaks in mind to add to the car to make it more competitive for the 2012 season. He added that the car needs to be pushed little
more in terms of pace while avoiding pushing the limits of the car.
“Any car comes out [at the first test] with strong points or weak points,” he said. “But it's a nice car to drive, it's very docile, so definitely if we can get it a bit more edgy, without going over the edge, then it's going to be a much faster car.”
“The traction is a good surprise, it's nice and easy on the rear tyres,” Senna added. “That's a big change from the car we had last year with poor traction. It's a different concept for the rear end of the car, I think we need to still explore that and make
it stronger, so that it's one of the strong features of this car.”
Senna joined Williams under some mixed emotions as he knew that his inclusion meant that Rubens Barrichello would lose his race seat with the team. Barrichello raced for Williams in 2011 but a poor season resulted in him losing his race seat although talks
of him retaining the seat arose but Senna was made the final choice. Barrichello saw the decision to be taken over the financial benefits that it would add to the team rather than skill.
It will be interesting to see how Senna performs in the season, Williams will be looking to use his expertise to develop the car and improve upon the dismal 2011 showing.
