Bruno Senna believes qualifying performances will decide his future at Williams – Formula 1 news
Bruno Senna thinks that qualifying performances are a big factor in influencing whether or not he will stay on with Williams beyond 2012.
Pastor Maldonado has been confirmed a race seat but Senna will be matched up with the team’s reserve driver of the current season Valtteri Bottas.
“The only reason why we scored good points in Hungary is because we qualified well - and we need to keep on doing it,” he tells the AFP news agency. “Everybody needs opportunities to grow up and this is mine. I need an opportunity to grow up and develop
with the team. It's probably the hardest season in Formula 1 for who knows how many years…with a tenth of a second you can be five or six positions (further) up.”
He added that in the races he thinks he has been doing pretty well. As according to him nailing qualifying will be the key to making sure he stays for next year and hopefully the next few years. He will have nothing to worry about for the near future if
he can manage this. He thinks the team has had a strong performance overall. He has been learning and improving and it is going to be a case of chipping away and in the second half of the season. Senna is relying on having experience helping him doing much
better in the coming season.
He is currently placed 15th in the Drivers’ Championship only five points behind his teammate Maldonado. Many believe that Bottas will most likely replace Senna for 2013 but the team has not made any hints regarding that matter. Bottas has been a regular
for the Friday practice runs throughout the season and has been using Senna’s car in those sessions.
Bottas is the reigning GP3 Champion and is considered a talented driver. It will be interesting to see how the future pans out for the Finn and the Brazilian as the season ends. One thing is certain that for Senna to retain his race seat for the next season,
he will have to come up with good performances consistently in the remainder of the season.
