Bruno Senna goes all out to impress the Lotus Renault GP team
Lotus Renault GP’s reserve driver Bruno Senna finally got his hands on the new Renault car and he was able to show what he has got, as it is believed that Senna and Nick Heidfeld are the top running competitors to replace Robert Kubica.
Robert Kubica recently went through a horrifying accident during a rally this past week, seriously injuring his right hand, as the team revealed that he will be unable to compete in the upcoming 2011 Formula 1 season. His future in the sport is uncertain
as his right hand’s nervous system is not functioning properly and it seems that the next couple of weeks are going to be vital for his recovery.
Both Heidfeld and Senna have a chance to prove themselves during the pre-season test session that took place in Jerez this past weekend, as Nick gave a pretty good performance in the new Renault car, the pressure increased on Senna immensely.
“It wasn't a trial. Considering that I've only been here for three weeks it's a great shot for getting some experience with the car and the team. The team knows what they need and it's up to them what they do,” Senna told the media.
Senna became one of the first drivers to come out during the session on Sunday and managed to score the fifth fastest time of the day, after running for a couple of hours. Senna commented that the team wanted him to test the car more, rather than push and
prove himself.
“It's not up to me. I only had one day in the car and it was good. But for preparation you need much more than that and they need a driver that's ready to do it,” he added.
He stated that the new Renault car was running pretty well and the team has done a good job on the new car. However, the team needs to work even harder as they are aiming for wins in the upcoming season.
“They've made a very competitive car. There's plenty of development work to be done. There's plenty of potential in the car still to be unlocked,” said Senna.
It is going to be interesting to see what Renault decides in the near future, as it is expected that the driver that will replace Kubica is going to have the burden of being competitive right from the get-go. It is always difficult for a driver to come in
this late in the pre-season and try to fill the vacancy left behind by Kubica. The Renault fans are eagerly awaiting to see which driver will carry their hopes of a title to the finish line.
