Bruno Senna looking to maintain momentum ahead of Bahrain GP – Formula 1 news
Bruno Senna says he wants to continue the momentum he has built up by achieving two race finishes with points.
Senna finished sixth at the Malaysian Grand Prix and seventh at the Chinese Grand Prix. It has been a much improved performance from the Williams camp after a disastrous 2011 season. Senna now stands in the top ten of the drivers’ championship, while it
is early to talk about standings it is still a significant stat.
Senna’s partner Pastor Maldonado has been showing good form as well but was unfortunate to have two retired games. Maldonado finished the race in China and was among points finishing the race below his team-mate at 8th.
“I like the circuit layout, and it should suit our car because of the hot conditions,” Maldonado said. “It is also a challenging circuit for tyre degradation so we need to prepare for that. It was satisfying to score my first points of the season in China
and hopefully I can pick up some more points in Bahrain.”
Senna admitted he is unaware of how the car will behave in Bahrain but remained confident of a good showing. He said that he is focused on keeping his momentum.
“Bahrain is a challenging track with a number of long straights followed by big braking areas so the car has to be set up differently to many other circuits,” Senna said. “Cars with a big DRS effect will have an advantage so it will be interesting to see
how teams will perform. We have good momentum from the first three races of the season and hopefully we can carry that into this race.”
Williams will be looking to challenge the midfield teams as the season progresses as teams like Force India, Toro Rosso, and even Lotus are struggling so far. The season is still very much open and with most teams still trying to tweak their cars to better
suit the conditions, Williams have a good enough change to edge out other teams with their stable car.
It will be interesting to see how the team progresses as the season moves to Bahrain.
