Bruno Senna says he was a passenger during his accident at Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Bruno Senna has said that he was merely a passenger during the his high-speed accident during the British Grand Prix second practice session.
The Williams driver was at Chapel when his car aquaplaned off the circuit and hit the barriers causing a lot of damage to the car. Both the wings of the car were ripped and the suspension components were heavily damaged.
The Brazilian walked away from the accident without any major injuries but admitted that the car has been heavily damaged. He said that he hopes it can be fixed for the qualifiers and the race as it would really disappointing to lose out on the race like
this.
“Unfortunately we didn't have a very productive day in the end. The weather was poor weather with puddles on the track during second practice. On my second run, I aquaplaned on some deep water at the high speed Becketts section of the track and from that
point I was a passenger until the car hit the wall. It was quite a heavy accident but I am okay. There is a lot of damage to the car but the Williams team will, I'm sure, do a great job of getting it back into shape for tomorrow,” he added.
Williams chief operations engineer has said that the rebuilding of the car is already underway and the team is confident that he will be able to take part in the FP3 tomorrow.
He said, “In FP2 Bruno aquaplaned off the circuit on full wet tyres damaging the front and rear wings and suspension. The mechanics are now busy rebuilding the car and we'll be ready for FP3.”
The Williams team has been coming up with good performances as Senna’s team-mate Pastor Maldonado has been able to win his maiden Grand Prix at the Spanish GP. Although Senna has not been able to come up with similar performances but he can still play a
vital role in securing some vital points for the team. Williams has a good opportunity to finish well in the constructors’ because of the competitiveness nature of the season there is a good chance for the team to move up in the ranks.
