Bruno Senna to drive for Lotus Renault GP for next two races – Formula 1 news
Bruno Senna is going to take part in the upcoming two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season as a replacement for Nick Heidfeld at Lotus Renault GP which will take place in Belgium and Italy respectively.
There were rumours at first that the team was going to replace Heidfeld for the upcoming race which is expected to take place at the Spa-Francorchamps but now it seems that the team has decided to keep him for the Italian Grand Prix as well alongside teammate
Vitaly Petrov.
However, the team recently confirmed these rumours and now Senna has confirmed that he is going to be the race driver for the team for the upcoming two races.
“Right now I'm confirmed to do this race and the next race but for some legal issues, which need to be resolved, I can't confirm if I'm going to do the rest of the year or not. The intention is that I'm going to do it but it still cannot be confirmed,” said
Senna.
The young Brazilian driver joined Renault as their test driver and he has been taking part in most of the Friday free practice sessions for the team as a result of which racing once again after more than half a year is going to be very challenging for him.
“It's going to be a big challenge to come back in the middle of the season, or a bit later than the middle of the season to racing,” he said. “But I've been participating in all the meetings with the engineers so I've been keeping up-to-date with what is
going on in the team.”
The team claims that they are satisfied with his performance and that since Heidfeld has not been performing up to the mark, they have decided to replace him. The team is happy with Petrov’s performance though and that is the main reason why they have decided
to keep him.
Other than that, Renault claim that they signed Heidfeld for a reason and that was to help the team in securing the best possible results during the developmental stages of the car. Since he is a very experienced driver, the team was hoping for some coordination
from his side.
