We all know Bruno beat Bugner in 1987 when Bugner was 39.

However, would Bruno have beaten a motivated Bugner at his peak?

Bugner only lost very narrowly to Joe Frazier, gave Ali two tough fights (Ali is quoted as saying Bugner was one of his toughest opponents) and also beat, Jimmy Ellis, Jimmy Young, Mac Foster, Henry Coooper(at age 21), Chuck Wepner, Manuel Ramos etc.

Personally i think Ali and Frazier would have KO'd Bruno easily.

  1. bugner was competitive against bruno in '87 for the first few rounds before frank took over.

a younger bugner  would have pushed bruno, so as much as i hate to say (write) it, i pick bugner by decision, or very late rounds stoppage.

  2. Never really saw Bugner. Bruno had a very hard punch, and he took a lot of punches on his feet. Cut easily though.

  3. Frazier probably would have knocked him out, Ali would win by decision.  Bugner did have a pretty decent chin but Frazier had him down in their fight.  I think in his prime Bugner would still lose to Bruno pretty much the way he already lost to him.

  4. Style make fight. Frank Bruno was a good puncher and Joe Bugner was a bleeder. If they fight today, the referee would stop the fight within 5 rounds because of excessive bleeding.

  5. Ali always said that Bugner was one of his toughest fights. I pick him.

  6. Bugner in his peak would have edged out Bruno in the latter stages of the fight.

  7. I remember watching Joe Bugner fighting Ali and Frazier and put up a great show. Bugner was in my opinion a very under-rated fighter which was fuelled I'm sure by him beating our 'enry, a fight by the way I thought Henry Cooper had just won, in my opinion they wanted a new young champion to take over his mantle.

Bruno versus and Ali and Frazier would have been completely one sided, not in the same class.

  8. Bruno, was not a good fighter. Have you watched his fights with Mike tyson. Tyson tore him apart. Both matches ended by TKO before Bruno was gona get knocked out. I agree with you, Ali and Frazier would have defeated Bruno easy. The match would have been completely against Bruno.
