Bruno to carry the “Senna” legacy
They say ‘it runs in the blood’ when sporting legacies fail to die. With so many examples to quote, it is easier to believe that talent does travel from one generation to the next in sublime genetic makeup – traits, skills and the attitude sometimes fails
to die down.
With a legacy to take care of, Bruno Senna stepped into world of auto sports with a lot of grit and courage. As a child, he would have cherished to be the nephew of three-time world champion and Formula One icon, Ayrton Senna. However, only time taught him
about the weight of having ‘Senna’ as his surname.
Bruno entered the Formula One circuit in 2010, teaming with HRT - desperate to prove that he held more things in common with his uncle than just a surname.
Of course, his inborn love for racing made him begin carting at the age of five. However, the unfortunate death of Ayrton while racing in 1994 followed by Bruno’s father’s death in a motorcycle accident in 1995 came a jolt of lightening for the kid. This
chain of events scared Bruno's mother so much so that youngster had to give up racing.
He battled hard with his passion for 10 long years before his passion got the better of him and he returned to racing at the age of 20 - only 10 years after his uncle’s death at the 2004 Brazilian Grand Prix.
After making his way through the BMW series and later the British Formula 3 for a year, Bruno Senna glided to iSport International, finally perching at his destined Formula One circuit. In November 2008, Bruno savoured the F1 flavour for the first time while
testing for Honda when he finally made his place in the 2010 Formula 1 season amidst gigantic expectations.
Senna had already demonstrated time and again that he had a natural talent to be a great racer. However, a 10 year gap left him short of experience and practice which was necessary to polish his inherited expertise. At present, Bruno lacks the experience
that his competitors have and this might keep him away from the Ayrton legacy.
No matter what happens, Bruno is striving hard to strengthen his career with a less than competitive team. The newcomer stated that no doubt the name has always helped him immensely, yet it brought added pressure as well. “But I don't think about him (Ayrton
Senna) when I'm racing, I don't need him to inspire me - I'm a racing driver because I love motor racing, I love competition. Ayrton Senna was my uncle, but I am my own man," Bruno stated.
On the other hand, just a year before Ayrton Senna died at Imola, he talked to his fans where he said, "If you think I'm good, wait until you see my nephew Bruno."
Bruno Senna’s debut season was a tough and rough one, filled with disappointing performances for the rookie driver. Yet, Senna is hopeful and determined to carry on the legacy of the Senna family with a lot of pride and care.
