  1. Vegas Matt is right. If you're willing to spend the money on a "new" Brunswick Contender, you may want to look on www.craigslist.org in your area to see if there is an older "used" Brunswick table available for the same or less money. You might also try contacting the local pool rooms and ask their owners or managers if there are any tables available that they know of. They might even have a bulletin board with some private sales listed.

As a side note about Matt's comment on parts being made in China. That is almost a norm for large companies these days. The "parts" are actually farmed out to overseas companies and shipped to the U.S. where they are "assembled" in the U.S. and not MADE in the U.S.

  2. The Contender line is Brunswick's discount models, so you're getting a slightly less quality product. I don't know if they claim it's American made, but if they do, I can guarantee you that the parts are made in China, then shipped here and assembled. They probably use more veneered woods and painted woods rather than hardwoods as well, which will cut down on costs. I'm not saying their a bad table or anything, you're just not getting the highest quality table out there.

If you have the budget, I'd go with a real Brunswick. The Contender line is new and unproven. Brunswick tables have been around for over 100 years, and if you do not totally abuse it, they will last longer than you will.

    Good luck.

EDIT: I can guarantee you that a much larger portion of Olhausen, Diamond, and Connelly table are made from American products than the Brunswick Contender line. If nothing else, all the companies I listed use American wood in all of their hardwood tables. I seriously doubt any of the wood used in the Contender line is not imported.

  3. Smart guys you should listen to them

Honest Abe had one in the whte house

  4. The Brunswick contender is their bottom of the line table, although I have never played on one I wouldn't expect much. I have noticed that the newer Brunswick's ( last 15 years ) with the exception of their gold crown tables, have been poorer quality than their older tables. If have to have a Brunswick I would recommend an older model or a Gold Crown. If you don't have to have a Brunswick, I would go with a Diamond table they are the best quality tables on the market right now.
