Brush Repair Question

I have owned my Hoover for 8 years. The brush has been replaced several times and the one I have now is in good condition. I also replace the belt routinely and have a brand new one now. However, the vacuum is very loud and creates a terrible smell when I run it. I believe this is because over time the slot where the brush goes in has been stipped, and it just keeps getting worse.

Is this even worth taking in for repair? I don't see any removable part that can be replaced to fix the problem. Is 8 years a good life for this vacuum, or should I expect more?
