Brutal WrestleMania XXII Match – Mick Foley vs. Edge
It was brutal, it was deadly, it was bloody, it was horrific, it was dirty, it was one of the most hardcore matches in professional wrestling history; it was Mick Foley vs. Edge. This match was fought at Wrestle Mania 22 and included the stipulation that it will have no stipulation. It meant that anything goes in the match and there will be no disqualifications and no count outs. It was simple hardcore business which involved fighting with anything and everything. The competitors were also allowed to use different physical objects as weapons.
Mick Foley who is also known by the names of Cactus Jack, Mankind and Dude Love has become a legend of professional wrestling. Mick Foley has been involved in many of the most brutal matches of professional wrestling. One such match was the “h**l in a Cell” with the reaper of souls, The Undertaker. This was the same match when Mankind was thrown twice from the roof of the cage. On the other hand, Edge was a rising professional wrestler at the time of Wrestle Mania 22 and needed a big match to establish his reputation of domination in the ring. No one knew at that time that this match will go down as one of the most brutal matches of professional wrestling. However one thing was clear that both Mick Foley and Edge will put their careers on the line to win the fight.
It was Edge who initially entered the ring with his girlfriend Lita. Edge was angry even before the start of the match and was holding a baseball bat so that he could smash the head of Mick Foley. Some of the fans were holding sheets which read that “There will be blood”. Mick Foley entered the arena and received the cheers from the crowd. Both wrestlers looked at each with anger and rage. Mick Foley was quick to start the attack as he smashed the face of Edge on the ring floor. Edge returned the favour by executing his wrestling finisher called the “Spear” in the abdomen of Mick Foley. In this move Edge runs in the ring to build momentum and then collides with his opponent by smashing his own shoulder in the opponent’s abdomen.
But this match was far from over as it was just the start of destruction. Edge smashed a steel sheet to the face of Mick Foley. Mick Foley gathered some barbed wire and lashed the back of Edge multiple times. Edge was screaming in pain as there was blood on his body. Mick Foley also put some barbed wire in Edge’s face. Edge did not back down as he coiled up his baseball bat in barbed wire and delivered it on different parts of Mick Foley’s body. The deadliest part of the match came when Mick Foley smashed Edge on the ring floor. But this was not an ordinary smash as there were thumb pins on the ring floor. Edge screamed in pain as these thumb pins became a part of Edge’s body. Edge desperately needed some help to beat Mick Foley.
Lita helped Edge by smashing the baseball bat which was coiled up by the barbed wire on the groin of Mick Foley. She also ignited fire on a table and placed the table near the back of Mick. It was a dangerous situation as one move by Edge could have ended or shortened the career of his opponent. Edge came running through the ring and speared Mick Foley again. And there was Mick Foley flying in the air and then landing on the table which was burning with fire. For a moment it seemed that both wrestlers were dead as they were motionless. But Edge gathered some strength and went for the cover. The referee counted to three and Edge stood tall as the winner of this brutal and hardcore match.
