Bryan Brothers battle past Lindstedt/Tecau to reach the doubles final – Australian Open 2012
Top seed American duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan had some real tough time before registering victory against the seventh seed Swede-Romanian pair of Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau in the semi-final round of the Australian Open
on Thursday. The enthralling doubles encounter lasted for two hours and the final scores got settled at 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), in the favour of the Bryans, awarding them a place in the final of the mega event in Melbourne, Australia.
Lindstedt and Tecau had a brilliant run in the tournament prior to their Thursday’s matchup and carried on their winning form to claim the first set comprehensively. Their momentum was finally halted by the Bryan Brothers, who
pinned them in the second set to force their way right back in the match. Bob and Mike took momentum from there onwards and kept building pressure on their opponents to get in the driving seat. A nail-biting tie-breaker round was seen in the decider and the
top seeded Americans reigned supreme in the end to earn a title shot in the final of the star-studded event.
Lindstedt and Tecau banged a total of 13 thudding aces in the match but coughed 11 unforced errors to fade away their advantage. The seventh seeds exhibited exceptional shot making in the contest and registered 66 winners, in contrast
to the Bryans’ 35. The Swede-Romanian combination fought till the last minute but a couple of extraordinary net-point conversions from the Bryan Brothers at the most crucial moments of the game drove them out of the contest in the end.
Bob and Mike dropped their serve twice in the first set to lose it by 4-6 but a cracking serve break in the fourth game of the following set brought them right back in the match; the Bryans won the second set at 6-3. No more break
points were seen in the rest of the contest and a regular game took the final set into a tie-breaker round. Bob and Mike kept their focus in the intense pressure situation and a mini-break at 6-5 sealed the emphatic victory for them at 7-6(5).
