Bryan Brothers battle past Lipsky/Ram to enter the semis – Wimbledon Championships 2012
American twins, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, continued their progress towards their 12th Grand Slam title, as they beat compatriots, Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram, in the quarter-finals of the Men’s Doubles event at the Wimbledon
Championships on Thursday.
The Bryans had to bring out their best, as they fought back from two sets to one down to outlast their opponents 5-7, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 and reach the last four at the All England Club.
The twins are defending their title, as they beat Swedish-Romanian team of Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau in the final to capture last year’s crown.
In the latest match, Bryans made the initial breakthrough in the fourth game and won their subsequent serve to build a 4-1 lead. Lipsky and Ram hit back in the seventh and consolidated on it to equalise the score at 4-4. Lipsky
and Ram broke Bob and Mike again in the 11th game and did not lose any point in the following one to close it 7-5.
Bryans came roaring in the second set after getting stunned in the first, capturing opening three games to attain a 3-0 lead. The Americans maintained their advantage till the end to win 6-3.
The third set was the most competitive one, as none of the two teams allowed the other to claim a break in the first 11 games to take the score to 6-5 in favour of Lipsky and Ram. Serving to stay in the set at that moment, Bryans
saved first two break points but were unable to avoid the third, going down 5-7.
In the fourth set, Bryans and Lipsky/Ram held their serve in the opening eight games, levelling the score at 4-4. The twins struck in the ninth and made the most of their advantage to win 6-4.
The proceedings in the decider were exactly similar to the fourth set, as Bryans snatched a break in the ninth game and served it out at 5-4.
Mike said, while talking to the reporters after the match, "It would be cool. But we're not really thinking about it too much. We're just trying to win our next slam. I think we'll have a bunch of chances to do it. It would be
sweet because this is where we got the career Grand Slam in '06. A Wimbledon title is pretty sweet but just to add that on to it would be awesome."
Bryans will face British-Danish duo of Jonathan Marray and Fredrik Nielsen in the semi-final.
