Bryan Brothers crush Andujar/Lopez to reach quarters – China Open 2012
Top seeded Americans, Bob and Mike Bryan, devastated the Spanish duo, Pablo Andujar and Feliciano Lopez, with a breadstick at the China Open 2012 on Wednesday. They juggled up a 6-1, 7-6(5) victory against their rivals to progress into the quarter-finals
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 Series event held in Beijing.
The American twins displayed perfect co-ordination to outclass Andujar and Lopez in their first encounter. As a result, the Bryans inched closer towards their seventh year-to-date title at this outdoor hard court event.
Bob and Mike thundered into the National Tennis Center. They reeled off five games in a row before the Spaniards could hold on. The American veterans plucked their serve once again and clicked the opener with a breadstick. They fended off the only breakpoint
they faced and capitalised on two out of three break chances to inch towards the glory.
Ranked top in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Bob and Mike kept momentum sailing in the following set. They swiped their entire serves without facing any hindrance. Despite squandering four break opportunities, the Americans held their
composure and prevailed in the tie-breaker. They cruised to a 5-1 lead in it before closing out the set with a 7-6(5) win.
On the whole, the Americans spilled more double faults but finished the match with 65 points. They produced a slightly higher first serve share of 74 per cent as compared to their opponents’ 73 per cent and amazingly availed 34 out of 42 points on it.
The Bryans are currently on an eight match winning streak. Their impressive run of form saw them capturing the US Open and overpowering the Spanish team in the doubles rubber at the Davis Cup.
The top ranked tandem will face off the Ukrainian-Polish tandem, Alexandr Dolgopolov and Lukasz Kubot, in the last eight. Dolgopolov and Kubot made an epic comeback from a set down to overpower the German-Italian junction, Florian Mayer and Andreas Seppi.
The Ukrainian-Polish collaboration was broken three times but they cashed five out of 10 break chances to formulate a 6-7(8), 6-3, 11-9 score line in almost one and a half hour.
