Bryan Brothers crush Hanley/Zimonjic to enter semis – Rogers Cup 2012
Second seeded American brothers, Bob and Mike, devastated the Australian-Serbian pair, Paul Hanley and Nenad Zimonjic, with a breadstick at the Rogers Cup 2012 on Friday. They notched up a 7-5, 6-1 victory against their opponents to cruise into the final
four at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event taking place in Toronto, Canada.
The American twins showed top class skills to triumph over Haney and Zimonjic in straight sets in their first match-up. After earning the fame in almost an hour-long venture, the Bryans convincingly secured a spot in the semi-finals at this outdoor hard
court event and moved a step closer towards their fifth year-to-date title.
Bob and Mike entered the Rexall Centre in high spirits. They smoothly bagged their entire serves after brushing off both breakpoints they came across. The Americans got the breakthrough after capitalising on one out of two break opportunities in the last
game, eventually sealing the opener with a 7-5 success.
Ranked second in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, the Bryans’ skills were fully polished in the following set. They went on a five-game tear before the Australian-Serbian collaboration could hold on. Bob and Mike plucked their serve
one again and comfortably pocketed a breadstick. They blocked the only breakpoint they faced and converted two out of three break chances to their advantage.
Summing up the seeds’ performance, Bob and Mike struck two aces and clobbered a higher first serve share of 72 per cent as opposed to their rivals’ 59 per cent. They also impressively availed 28 out of 38 points on it and finished the match with 58 points.
In the morning session, the Bryans eased past the Croatian-Brazilian tandem of Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in straight sets to progress. The Americans lost their serve once but cashed in four out of seven break opportunities to manipulate a 7-5, 6-2 success.
Bob and Mike will square off against the fifth seeds, Austria’s Jurgen Melzer and India’s Leander Paes, in the semi-final.  Melzer and Paes stunned the third seeded Poles, Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in three sets to set up this battle.
