Bryan Brothers dump Granollers/Troicki to reach the double quarters – Shanghai Rolex Masters 2011
World number one duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan reigned supreme once again, defeating the Spanish-Serb combination of Marcel Granollers and Viktor Troicki in the second round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Wednesday afternoon.
Being played on the outdoor hard courts of the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Shanghai, China, the contest witnessed another brilliance performance from the Bryan Brothers. The American duo took less than an hour to wind up victory in straight sets,
6-1, 6-4, marching his way to the quarter-final of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters Series event in style.
Bob and Mike received a bye to the second round of the tournament and registered their 50th victory of the running ATP season to earn a place in the round of eight. Granollers and Troicki suffered their second defeat at the hands of the American
duo in doubles encounters. Bob and Mike were victorious against them in the semi-final clash last year at Madrid Masters, defeating Granollers and Troicki in a tight three-setter 6-0, 4-6, 10-2.
The Bryan brothers were absolutely ruthless in the opening set and blew away their opponents with commanding ease to get one up early in the game. Granollers and Troicki regrouped a bit in the second set but the Americans were too good for them to contain.
Granollers and Troicki utterly failed to register a single serve break in the entire matchup, squandering the only break chance they had to finish on the losing side.
Bob and Mike crafted a total of six break opportunities in the game and converted half of them en route to victory. They dropped just four points on their serve, clinching 25 out of 29 first serve points en route to victory.
Two crushing break point conversions proved enough for the Bryan Brothers to seal the first set, 6-1, and they carried on their winning momentum in the following set as well to inch closer to victory. Granollers and Troicki dropped their serve again in the
fifth game of the second set to let Bob and Mike fly away with a comprehensive victory at 6-4.
Bryan Brothers will take on the sixth seeded Polish pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the next clash to fight for a place in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters. The Pole duo received a walkover in the second round of tournament
against the combination of Tommy Robredo of Spain and Dmitry Tursunov of Russia, to reach the quarter-finals.
