Bryan Brothers flash past Bracciali/Cabal to reach semis – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Top seeded American duo, Bob and Mike Bryan, slaughtered the Italian-Colombian tandem, Daniele Bracciali and Juan Sebastian Cabal, with a breadstick at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Tuesday. They nudged up a 6-3, 6-1 victory against their rivals to power
into the last four at this hard court tournament taking place in Florida, United States.
The American twins broke their unseeded opponents’ serve five times to seal the match in straight sets. After this epic 54-minute duel, Bryans stayed on course to bid their third title at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Masters
1000 event and their 78th career title.
Ranked top in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Bryans blasted into the Tennis Center at Crandon Park and took a 3-0 lead after drawing the first blood in the second game. After capitalising on another break chance in the sixth game,
they cruised to a 5-1 score line. Despite squandering a chance for pulling out the opening with a breadstick, the Americans remained calm and held their serve once more in the ninth game, consequently clinching the opening set with a 6-3 score line.
Bryans kept momentum rolling into the proceeding set and outclassed Bracciali and Cabal completely. After the Italian-Colombian pair kept their serve in the opening game, the Americans unleashed their true colours and stroke out the following six games in
a row. They cashed in all three break opportunities to cap the match with a breadstick.
Overall, Bob and Mike Bryan showed perfect co-ordination throughout the match. They produced a slightly lower first serve share of 60 per cent as opposed to their unseeded rivals’ 63 per cent but brilliantly marked 21 out of 27 points on it. The Americans
also found seven break opportunities and converted five to their advantage.
Next in line for the high-spirited twins is the conqueror of the match between Spaniards, David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco, and seventh seeded Indo-Czech team of Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek.
The sixth seeds, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, will accompany Bryans in the semi-finals. They stunned the third seeded team of Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic in three sets to set-up this clash.
